I would avoid any state - country- reference , and especially any flag, since this may be offensive for some users. As already commented, the primary language and the suggested download should be given from browser preferences. I like the idea of having in a visible secondary list the main languages of the state where the user is connected. This may help users who want their own localizations but have a misconfigured browser. Ethnologue should be checked for this. For instance with current localizations, in Spain: Basque, Catalan and Spanish. In France: Basque, Catalan and French. Toniher 11:53, 15 Dec 2005 (PST)

repons [Marco] In my opinion I do not think to have flags is so offensive. A country is a country an 'local' politics have nothing to do with downloading a program.

I feel that by clicking on map people can very easily find their language (better than a list), but mostly it is a better marketing tool. Another option is to have a globe and by clinking in your region (america, asia, europe, africa, australia) you will be redirected to the reginional website where you can find your list of languages (which i shorter that all languages).

If we have click per country of course all languages that are localized and are spoken in that country must be listed.

Also why is it so bad to have a link in the corner saying:

"you are in [europe]/[Finland], click and follow me for you language". People can always choose to download the english version from the main site. 20 dec 15:00

Well, that's your opinion. I have a great bunch of users who may not agree with your point of view. You can easily understand my POV realizing where I am from. IMVHO, the less "country" references in an international site such as, the better. Toniher 14:02, 28 Dec 2005 (PST)

Note that the status of valencian as a language is debated, currently it is a community edition and doesn't have an official localization. --AxelHecht 00:47, 21 Feb 2006 (PST)

There is not such debate, except for political motivations
Valencian = Catalan as Spanish = Castilian or Flemish = Dutch Toniher 02:14, 21 Feb 2006 (PST)
