Talk:Tabbed Browsing

I always thought it would be nice to have the ability to go between multiple firefox windows and tabs. In other words, it would be great if you could turn a window into a tab and turn a tab into a window.

I don't know, just an idea. What do you guys think?

  • It would be cool if you could "rip" a tab out of a window by dragging it out of the browser and dropping it into another window, or dropping it outside of Firefox to turn it into a new window.

I'd like to second that idea. In my browsing session, I typically use both, multiple windows and multiple tabs. A window is typically used to group related things. During browsing, I often come to the point where I'd like to regroup my opened sites. Sadly, with the current user interface, in most cases that's not worth the efford.

Whoops, somehow missed noticing the above... that's the same thing I just said below re use cases. Yes, I think dragging tags between windows or into new windows would be a very nice behaviour that doesn't require any additional UI encrustation.

Resizable tab content

I think it would be cool if the user can manipulate the size of the window area per tab. This would be useful when you need to change the width of the page you're reading, say, for those with very long texts (and not fixed width pages).

Sounds like a good idea, it would also be cool to be able to have several pages open at the same time in one firefox window. And better yet, to be able to move them around

Not sure what the users above are referring to, but what I would like have is teh ability to view multiple tabs simultaneously. At a minimum, tobe able to view 2 tabs side by side. A great example of this is in jEdit - it can split the viewing pane into 4 quadrants, each displaying a different "tab".

This would be really great for comparing two pages; reading the help in Tab1 on how to fill out the form in Tab2 (e.g., view the "Editing Help" below in a different tab instead of a new window); or for monitoring several tabs.

Tab Sizes

It would also be helpful to enlarge the tab when mouse pointer is over it, kinda like the bottom menu in Mac OS --T0rus 07:43, 27 Jan 2006 (PST)

Tab Toggle Keyboard Shortcut

I'm a tab power user. I'd love to have a keyboard shortcut that is the Firefox Tab equivalent of Windows "Alt Tab" for toggling through open aps. Specifically, I'd like to be able to toggle through open tabs with something like "Alt Shift" instead of having to grab my mouse and point to each tab. Should be simple and a great usability improvement IMO.

Ctrl-(Shift)-Tab and Ctrl-PageUp/Down switch tabs. This question comes up now and then -- is there something that should/could be done for discoverability here? It's not like Alt-(Shift)-Tab and friends are really advertised, either... --Tuukka 14:39, 7 April 2006 (PDT)

Close Button

It would be nice if there were options for whether the close buttons appears at all or only on the current tab. It might just be me but I find the button distracting and since I middle click to close tabs I find it unnecessary. Thanks and continue the good work.--Darryl 15:54, 23 March 2006 (PST)

Tab Rows

The "hardcore tab user" only has 10-20 tabs open at a time, which means the scroll bar is probably fine. *This* hardcore tab user currently has 100 open, 12 per row over 9 rows, and I switch between most of them on a regular basis. (Thank goodness for site icons and Tab Mix Plus.) A scroll bar isn't going to do me any good—can the tab scroller still be overridden/disabled? --PeterJ 20:38, 26 June 2006 (EDT)
