Hi, I'm William Duyck, a community volunteer with the Mozilla Messaging Team. In this video, I'm going to run through the new Quick Filters feature in Thunderbird 3.1, and show you how much faster, and easier, finding your emails can be.

In Thunderbird 3.0 we introduced a brand new search system, which made it possible to find messages in any email account or folder. Now, we up our game, and present you with the Quick Filters toolbar, which, instead of hiding the options box in a menu, somewhere deep and dark, it brings filters into the light, and right to your fingertips! Allowing you to search by sender, subject, recipients, message, or any combination of these.

Okay, so lets say I need to find that important email about my flight to Canada. Well all I have to do is open the Quick Filters in my all mail, as this is where I left it. I then start searching, {type flight itinerary} and apply the filters I want search by {select subject and body}. Here I am going to use the filters subject and body. Its that simple!

There are even some default, commonly used filters which I can apply to an entire folder in a split second. {quick flash of a filter being applied} Need to see that again? {pause} Okay then, so I open the folder I want to apply the filter to and give it a click. I can then see the magic unfold before my very eyes. Yes, and I can use any combination of these too!

Oh... and did I mention that I can pin these filters so that as I move from folder to folder... {another short pause while switching folders with pinned filter [stared]} the filter is automagically applied straight away.
