Design Contribution

The Webmaker Design team welcomes contributors. We want your ideas and your craft, and in return we offer a community of mentorship as well as the ability to contribute to a project being used by people around the world.

If you have a bug that would be good for designers to tackle, here's our current working process:

  • File a bug and tag the Whiteboard with [goodfirstbug] & [design]
  • Also assign a Mentor by adding an email address in the mentor field. If you're not sure who to put as a mentor here, you can use Cassie (cassie@mozillafoundation.org), who may then reassign it to the appropriate person.
  • When someone wants to take the bug, they can simply assign it to themselves if it's not taken already, or flag the mentor named in the bug for more information.
  • Design work will need to be submitted for a Design Review before it can be implemented. The mentor can provide this review.
  • Once design review is R+, the mentor can help loop in a dev to get the work implemented or follow up with user testing – whatever is the appropriate next step.
  • Any questions or getting stuck? Email Cassie at cassie at mozillafoundation dot org or jump into #webmaker on IRC and ask anyone there.

Are you looking to contribute? Here is what you need to get started:

  • We use Font Awesome for our icons. Visit Font Awesome and you will be able to download the .OTF font. You will now have a Font Awesome font that you can use on your design mockups
  • We have a Shared Drive of our Design Assets. Logos can be found here as well.
  • We use Open Sans and Lato for our fonts.
  • We use Bootstrap for our HTML markup. This is especially helpful when designing, as the Bootstrap Grid should give you an idea of how to layout your designs.
  • We have our own Bootstrap theme which we've named Makerstrap. This resource will be super helpful when designing anything that needs to adhere to the Webmaker visual language.
