The common thread that runs throughout Mozilla is our belief that, as the most significant social and technological development of our time, the Internet is a public resource that must remain open and accessible to all. With this in mind, our efforts are ultimately driven by our [http://www.mozilla.org/about/manifesto mission] of encouraging openness and opportunity, innovation and participation online.
We haven't decided if completed campaign pages should still be available or if they should be removed.  Probably needs to be decided on case by case basis.  Anything that should remain can be moved to a more appropriate place.

To achieve these goals, we use a highly transparent, collaborative process that brings together dedicated volunteers from around the world with a small staff of employees to coordinate the creation of products like the [http://firefox.com Firefox] web browser. Our volunteers and employees work together with equal respect and authority in a virtual meritocracy, and the technology we build we dedicate to everyone as a free, shared public resource.
For future campaigns we can create a central repository for them or add them where appropriate.  For instance, the Parks pages live in www.mozilla.org/parks instead of a specific campaign location.

In the end, the Mozilla community, organization and technology are all focused on a single goal: '''making the Internet better for everyone'''. [http://www.mozilla.org/contribute Join us]!

We'd like to add a promo(s) to the page to highlight various things, such as donations, ways to contribute to the community, etc.  For example of how promos are used on other pages, see the [[Mozilla.org/Promo_spots|Promo documentation]].

Revision as of 20:43, 1 April 2010

This wiki page is a place to collect ideas for updates to the About Mozilla page on www.mozilla.org.

Plan

Our current thinking is that the current About and Causes section should be merged since talking About Mozilla and Mozilla's mission separately just doesn't make much sense. The following is a plan for combining this content.

Causes Section

All content in the Causes section now should be moved or deleted.

To Move

http://www.mozilla.org/causes/index.html http://www.mozilla.org/causes/better.html

These pages are the key part of the mission message and should be moved to a new Mission page in the About section.

http://www.mozilla.org/causes/grants/

This content has already been moved to a top-level Grants section.

To Delete and Redirect

http://www.mozilla.org/causes/access.html http://www.mozilla.org/causes/education.html http://www.mozilla.org/causes/free.html http://www.mozilla.org/causes/security.html http://www.mozilla.org/causes/openweb.html

There may be relevant content from these pages that are worth keeping, but the pages themselves don't need to be migrated.

Not Sure

http://www.mozilla.org/causes/serviceweek http://www.mozilla.org/causes/onewebday http://www.mozilla.org/causes/open

We haven't decided if completed campaign pages should still be available or if they should be removed. Probably needs to be decided on case by case basis. Anything that should remain can be moved to a more appropriate place.

For future campaigns we can create a central repository for them or add them where appropriate. For instance, the Parks pages live in www.mozilla.org/parks instead of a specific campaign location.

Coding Thoughts

Our goal for www.mozilla.org pages is to help advance web standards where possible. This page is light on design elements so there's not much opportunity to use some standards such as canvas or SVG. Our thinking is that this could be a good opportunity to showcase the new WOFF format. Some relevant links:
