Hacktivate Learning

Who is this for?

Educators of all shapes and sizes! With the recently identified focus on building a networked community of educators "hacktivated" by both Mozilla's operational approach and Webmaking learning mission, a team is being brought together to engage both individual educators as well as education systems and cohorts.

We seek to hacktivate educators in both formal and informal learning spaces.

Educators already teaching webmaking

We would like to:

  • help guide your content towards important web literacies via tools/curriculum/teaching culture
  • help you hack our content to fit with your own learning objectives
  • help you expand your efforts through promotion/showcasing and by guiding local webmakers to your organizations
  • hear about your successes and facilitate a culture of sharing

Educators not yet teaching webmaking (eg: camp instructor)

We would like to:

  • inspire you that this would be fun to teach
  • make it easy for you to teach
  • help you learn more skills
  • provide relevant tools, curriculum, etc.
  • help you hack our content to fit with your own learning objectives
  • show you that webmaking can be inserted into ANY topic
  • hear about your successes and facilitate a culture of sharing

Learners becoming the educators

We would like to:

  • encourage existing educators to identify these stars and provide a single pathway once they've been identified
  • encourage webmakers to be these stars
  • lower barriers to teaching by teaching newbie educators how to host learning events, hackjams and create networks.
  • hook you up with existing teachers to learn from

How can I contribute to these projects?

Everyone can pitch in! Please visit the project wiki pages to learn what kind of help is needed.

Many projects have mailing lists or issue trackers you can follow. If you want to see where projects are at any given moment, check out the #drumbeat + #spark hashtag. Project collaborators are tweeting their progress!

How can I get involved?

There are a ton of ways to contribute. If you're into making things:

  • write a blog post
  • shoot some video
  • pitch in on one of the festival projects
  • help us write the book
