Meeting Notes

• Carlo on "making Drumbeat more social"
• Modules in Drupal to minimize effort in social media
• Using APIs to integrate more fully with social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc.
• Aggregate activity streams to add value to the community growing
• e.g., we host something on the Drumbeat web site, also post to Facebook / Twitter, can aggregate comments back to Drumbeat site to enrich the coversation
• You Tube, etc.

• Think about integration strategy

• David: How comfortable is Mozilla with using these social networking. Somewhat proprietary / closed platforms. Need to include others.

Mark Surman:

• Live, ignite-style presentations around open web
• Many ideas have to do with openness, but not necessarily about the web
• How can we more easily get across the idea that a good Drumbeat idea has to do with the open web?
• e.g., guy in Singapore: wants to design an "open design agency?"
• Somehow we're not communicating very well the kind of ideas we're looking for

• Gina: link to a form where they have to answer the question: "how does it make the web better?"

• Mark: great suggestion
• Will still have to push harder about how we communicate to outside world

• Gina: Organize mailing list in more public-facing way
• Mark: Once we launch more publicly will tackle that -- good point.

• Ned: looking for help on graphic design and wire-framing for web site
• Ned: also looking for great examples of recruitment / great sign-up pages

• Mozilla wiki workspaces work
  • Concrete set of tasks
  • Set of goals people want to move towards
  • Able to build structured patterns of communication over time, esp. as wikis get better for project management
  • Other supporting resources -- that fall off to the side with the wiki being what pulls most projects together

• Challenge: attracting less technical people to Drumbeat
• Most people coming for first time find Wiki alienating and hard to use

• Gina: forms / uniform
• Use forms and fields that are more user-friendly than wiki
• Make the experience easier / template

David: Facebook

• Don't necessarily collaborate on Facebook, but do active working-together like activities
• All driven by friends showing you the ropes
• And a friend shows them how it works
• No one there to hold their hand at works

Carlo:

• Where integration works important to get data where things are happening, portability, etc.

William:

• polishing document summarizing project to start an EU drumbeat blog
• and remix Mozilla manifesto, taking an EU-specific approach
• will be circulating document later today
• will be a collaborative blog

• worked on a project where people submit one-page proposals online
• definitely a work in progress, once circulated document
