Security Mentorship Processes

Assigning a Mentee to a project

If the project is a unique project opportunity, the Single Mentee below, if it is a repeatable or shared goal mentorship, follow the instructions under Multiple Mentees.

Single Mentee

After the applicant has accepted the mentorship, take the following steps:

  • Create the Mentorship Tracking Page (instructions)
  • Update the project tracking page
  • Assign the project tracking bug to the mentee
    • Update the URL field to the tracking page for the Mentorship

Multiple Mentees

After the first applicant accepts the mentorship, take the following steps:

  • Create the Mentorship Tracking Page (instructions)
    • Note that for a collaborative project, mentees may share a tracking page, and update it independently
  • Clone the project tracking bug
  • Update the bug with the following details
    • Assign the bug to the mentee
    • Update the summary with the mentee short name in square brackets
    • Update the URL field to the tracking page for the Mentorship
    • Edit the comment to reflect the specific areas and outcomes for the project to be the focus areas for the specific mentee
  • If the original tracking bug has matched its capacity, then mark the tracking bug as resolved fixed; it can be re-opened if necessary.

Closing Mentorship Bugs

When a mentorship bug is closed, the status should be marked as RESOLVED, with the following resolution:

  • FIXED - the project is completed \o/
  • EXPIRED - the project was abandoned (no contact with mentee)
  • INCOMPLETE - the project was not completed (the mentee or mentor formally withdrew from the project)
  • SUPPORT - the mentee was abandoned (no contact with mentor)
  • INVALID - the proposal was not accepted or requires additional information

In each case, a comment is required to explain the circumstances of the project being closed.
