Minutes

Significant Updates

test day on June 22

  • given the urgency of Basecamp, is there a way to test B2G?
  • there's a B2G for desktop bug
  • we need to start filing compatibility bugs
  • Ragavan strongly encourages folks to test on Fennec and file compatibility bugs
  • often bugs are on the other end: UA sniffing, not using properties that are available
  • don't just look at layout and CSS issues but also functionality issues
  • Aaron has tools: screenshot tool for comparing screenshots, tool for opening sites in your browser and reporting whether it looks/feels right
  • question about how to convert reports into bugs
  • Fennec folks planning to land apps functionality on nightly
  • we could test that on test day as well

status of new b2g test devices?

  • rags to ask clee and get back to clouserw about it
  • marketplace team is not blocked but can't publish anything; is testing on Samsung Galaxy S2
  • marketplace team waiting for native browserid to land, which is supposed to happen this week
  • platform support should be everywhere, but UI is product-specific
  • felipe's team is working on desktop Firefox UI

Questions and Concerns

need closure ASAP on API for installed apps versus acquired apps

  • it would be really cool if marketplace could distinguish between installed and acquired apps
  • we have a way to determine this for both mac and windows
  • and we have patches for both platforms
  • folks are arguing about whether and how to do this
  • myk to send jst background info on installed vs. acquired apps issue
  • jst to contact anant and suggest next steps for resolving issue

status of apps on fennec?

  • wes just landed two patches for apps on fennec
  • it should be possible to test apps on fennec on the june 22 test day
  • wes should be able to get a build to apps folks
  • wes to generate and distribute Fennec build with apps support on dev-webapps

"International Marketplace Potential Ship before B2G milestone" - What does this mean and how does it affect us?

  • marketplace folks heard there's going to be an international release of the marketplace before we launch it in brazil
  • rags doesn't think that's the case
  • plan is to launch english content english-speaking for north america, uk, and australia
  • for those it won't be necessary to localize the site
  • goal is to get marketplace for desktop and android so developers can start developing apps and we can get a sense of how the ecosystem works as a whole
  • marketplace will be accessible to every firefox user
  • but english-speaking content initially
  • we will not be supporting chrome and other browsers

Need a dedicated UX resource for web runtime

  • dils is not going to be working on the desktop runtime anymore
  • bclark can review proposals that we come up with
  • in the meantime, engineers will have to design the UI, with feedback from bclark and ticachica

Roundtable

  • demos happen fridays at noon
  • demo your stuff! you may think folks know about it, but they don't!
  • we have a quarterly goal to complete the runtimes and AITC
  • get your stuff in by the end of the month!
  • that way we have a buffer before the merge on July 17 (16?)

Actions

  • wes to generate and distribute Fennec build with apps support on dev-webapps
  • myk to send jst background info on installed vs. acquired apps issue
  • jst to contact anant and suggest next steps for resolving issue
