You will need a discourse admin account to complete this SOP.

Make sure you have a bug for the category request first.

Setting up email

Go to admin.google.com and create a new alias for the "Discourse Reply2" user. You should only create an alias for top-level categories.

Creating the category

  • Go to the categories page on the Discourse instance and click new category.
  • Enter the category name, select the parent category if applicable, enter a colour (can be random) and then click on the settings tab.
  • If the category is a top-level category, set the custom incoming email address to the one you created in the Google Apps admin page.
  • If the category is a sub-category, set the custom incoming email address to the same one as the parent category, but add the sub-categories slug as the wildcard for the email address. For example, the email in address for the United Kingdom category under the Communities category would be communities+united-kingdom@mozilla-community.org.
