DRUMBEAT People
Overview
- Showcase people around the world who are making the web better. Put a friendly & inspiring human face on abstract Internet issues.
- Make it easy for people to NOMINATE themselves and others who are helping to make the web better.
- Provide a platform for these leaders’ own self-promotion. Provide clear “what’s in it for me” messaging.
- Showcase the higher-profile, big name “attractors” that will add buzz and draw people to the event, while at the same time balancing the community, grassroots-y spirit of Drumbeat.
- Provide a crystal clear description and examples of who we’re looking for.
- In addition to community-sourcing, use volunteers to scour the web and search for great potential people.
What do they get? What’s the fame and fortune offer?
- Plane tickets and participation in the big EVENT
- Getting profiled on the web site
- Access to thought leaders / attractors
- Official recognition and some sort of title. e.g., “2010 Mozilla Drumbeat Fellow”
- Could be other smaller forms of recognition as well. e.g., “Winner of Drumbeat slideshow contest”
- Mozilla will probably offer at least one cash prize in each theme (but this should not be the main emphasis).
- Stay vague on amount; e.g., “a small number of people will receive some kind of support from Mozilla Drumbeat”
Nomination workflow
- Participants can nominate themselves, or someone else.
- When you nominate someone, it triggers an email notification letting the nominee know that someone has nominated them, then prompts them to fill in the PEOPLE intake form.
