Project overview & Goals

We'd like to create a Facebook badge system and custom tab for the launch of Firefox 4. The badge and tab will allow users to share Firefox 4 with friends and learn more about it.

Key Dates/Deadlines

  • February 25: Project Complete
  • Late February/March: Firefox 4 launch (tentative)

Tentative Schedule

  • February 10: initial prototype
  • February 28: feature complete staging site live (with placeholder design + copy)
  • March 1-4: QA testing + security review of functionality (with placeholder design + copy)
  • March 4: design and copy finalized, copy handed off to L10n
  • March 6: design and copy implemented on stage
  • March 7-11: QA testing + final security review for custom tab; localizations added
  • March 11: project is launch ready with an initial set of localizations
  • March 14: any additional launch localizations added

Project Scope/Specs

Design

  • 2-4 awesome badge designs
  • custom tab that shares look and feel of mozilla.com

Technical

  • Create Facebook share with friends dialog that includes download badge and a text box for adding a message. This post gets added to the user's wall and appears on friends' newsfeeds. Clicking the link in the post takes a user to the custom tab.
  • Code custom tab for the Firefox page on Facebook that includes campaign + product messaging, a button for posting the badge, and a button for downloading Firefox 4. This tab also includes interesting stats (TBD), such as the total count of badges posted.
  • Front-end will make use of standard-compliant code and be as cross-browser compatible as possible
  • The code will allow easy addition of new badges

Creative Direction and Inspiration

  • Tab is consistent with Firefox 4 product pages
  • Share dialog is consistent with Facebook dialogs


Key Elements/Desired Attributes

  • Open Built with open web tools and technology. a.k.a no Flash.
  • Engaging Gives user a reason to share with friends and/or download Firefox 4.
  • Localizable TBD - depends on how custom tabs can be localized
