Feedback Summary

  • Google Doodle crash getting greater visibility. [1][2] [3]

Mobile user feedback is stable, we continue a positive ratings trend since v14 released in response to performance, flash and UI improvements. Negative review topics are related to crashing, slowness and evangelism (site content).

On Beta, reviews are also positive trending with much praise for tablet support. Tyler is helping with mobile user feedback beginning last week, so welcome and thanks to him while Michelle works on Basecamp.

UX & User Research

  • [desktop]
    • [Australis]
    • [Social API] (Boriss)
      • minimum acceptable features have been modified slightly, landing a little later than originally planned
      • Priority 1 is getting chat landed, UX bugs on the table this week are mostly chat-related problems: overflow, popping in/out, error handling
      • Still some style tweaks needed, especially around chat windows
      • Flyover panels still iffy - it may be possible to implement them, but probably not exactly like mockups. Working with jwas & Shane this week
      • Working with Gavin to solidify notification channel appearance and UX
    • [hometab/newtab] Digitizing concept sketches this week, syncing up with sync and browserID on their status with eye to incorporating in design (Boriss)
    • [stub installer] final implementation support, visual and wording tweaks (WIP screenshots (madhava, shorlander)
    • high-dpi (retina) - getting graphics into bugs, like bug 781327 (shorlander)
  • [dev tools] Starting work on "Timeline" tool (Brian Dils)
  • [metro] (yuan)
    • Designing animated tab indicators on Windows 8 UI animated walkthrough (keynote file)
    • Awesomebar and start screen are moving to implementation: bug 747790
    • Working on setting charms on Windows 8, cleaning up content from XUL Fennec and updating for W8 UI.
  • [android] (ibarlow)
  • [other/future]
    • the team had a first session on defining a set of Firefox design values; currently analyzing our first sets of ideas (madhava + whole team)
    • researching experience metrics we can use to assess design success (madhava)
    • Designing space for creative collaboration - looking into opportunities to apply good practices to our offices (including new SF space!) - ideas here on pinterest

Firefox 14 Worthy Alternative to Safari

The Next Version Of HTTP Is Starting To Look Very SPDY

Questions, Comments, FYI

  • [Michael Verdi] What Firefox version will include the stub installer?
    • The stub will go out as soon as it's ready, potentially late this month. It's not riding trains so it goes out when it's ready, not when a particular Firefox release happens. -Asa
  • [catlee] Will changes for high dpi displays require changes to how we run tests on OSX
    • Good question for Jonathan Kew or someone else in Layout/Graphics. -Asa

Actions this week
