Introduction

Add-ons are used by at least a third of Firefox users, and while add-on usage has grown tremendously over the years, the install experience has largely remained the same. We are interested in the behavior of users as they install add-ons, and what happens to those installed add-ons afterwards.

Questions

  • How many add-ons do users install at once?
  • How soon after installing an add-on do users restart Firefox?
  • How long after installing an extension does a user uninstall that extension, if ever?
  • How long after Firefox detects an add-on update do users install that update?
  • How many non-default search providers has the user installed?
  • How often do people open the Add-ons Manager?
  • When people try to install an add-on from a non-whitelisted site and get the yellow bar, how many people choose to install, how many cancel, and how many ignore?
