What's Next for Firefox

How are you currently involved with the community?: We work with community volunteers every day to fix bugs, design the user experience, and build the features of Mozilla products - especially Firefox on desktop and mobile

Location of Work (where do you reside?): San Francisco, California

Talk Length (please choose between 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes): 60 minutes

Summary:

The User Experience (UX) team and community are working across Firefox on desktop, mobile, and tablets on some truly exciting upcoming projects. Now that 2012 is coming to a close, this talk will look at some amazing features that are in the works, our strategy in planning for future features, and how to get involved in the fun.

We'll spend some time talking about some new features starting to make waves, including:

- SocialAPI - integrating social networks and chat

- WebRTC/GUM - enabling video and audio communication in the browser

- Firefox on Android - design improvements for ARMv6 phones

- New Tab - how we're integrating content to make users more efficient

- Metro UI - designing Firefox on Microsoft's unusual tablet platform

- In-browser translation - making international communication seamless

How your session furthers the MozCamp Goals:

- Focuses on increasing developer engagement by highlighting areas where contribution is needed

- Giving Mozilla Asia community members concrete ways to get involved with upcoming Mozilla projects

Expected Outcome or Deliverables:

- Participants will learn what the UX team is working on and what they should expect to see in Firefox over the next year

- Participants will know how to get involved on projects they think are interesting


Desired Audience Type or Skill-set: Mozilla community - especially developers. Any skill level

Equipment Needs (Video projector already included): Projector, whiteboards or paper stands, paper for drawing/sketching, markers, post-it notes
