Title of Session: Localizing Design: Sandstone in Your Community

Facilitators: Matej Novak (:matej) & Sean Martell (:mart3ll)

Are you paid or volunteer staff?: Paid

Area of Contribution (Team Name): Creative (Brand)

How are you currently involved with the community?: Steward for Creative

Location of Work (where do you reside?): Toronto

Talk Length (please choose between 30, 60, 90, 120 minutes): 90 or 120 minutes

Summary:
Earlier this year we launched the revamped mozilla.org homepage based on our new Sandstone website style. Now we're ready to introduce the One Mozilla style guide, which includes all the information you need to use Sandstone on your community sites. The guide also outlines the rules and best practices surrounding our brands, products and how we communicate. At the same time, we'll be making all the assets you need available in a brand new assets repository.

Come learn about the One Mozilla style guide, what it includes and how you can put it to work for you and your community through demonstrations and examples. Topics will include tips on adapting the Sandstone style, designing for responsive layouts (for mobile devices) and generally localizing your designs beyond just translating the copy. In particular, we'll be covering the most common questions and concerns we've heard (but please bring your own as well).

How your session furthers the MozCamp Goals (https://wiki.mozilla.org/MozCampEU2012/Tracks):
This falls under both the Grow Mozilla and Mobile + Desktop tracks. Empowering and bringing in new designers helps grow the Creative Team, while creating better localized pages helps with our download and retention goals.

Expected Outcome or Deliverable:
We'll reach out to the community ahead of time to ask for stories, questions, concerns or other issues people have had adapting the Sandstone style. We'll then focus on those to give participants a better understanding of how to use Sandstone (and other parts of the style guide), including how they can customize it for their own needs. In turn, we'll walk away with a better understanding of the challenges people have faced (and the questions they've had) and use those to inform future additions and revisions to the style guide and assets repository.

Desired Audience Type or Skill-set:
Designers, localizers and anyone looking to learn more about creative (design in particular) and how it applies to furthering the mission in their local community
