Summary: We'll teach how to use the built-in desktop Firefox profiling tools by using them to identify the causes behind performance problems that session attendees are having. We'll discuss how to interpret the results, and how to make use of these tools to aid in fixing performance problems that are reported in Bugzilla.

How your session furthers the MozCamp Goals (https://wiki.mozilla.org/MozCampEU2012/Tracks):

  • Teaches more people how easy and effective profiling desktop Firefox can be
  • Identifies causes behind performance problems that can be demonstrated in-person, thereby helping improve Firefox

Expected Outcome or Deliverable:

  • Enlarge pool of contributors able to perform (and thereby teach) deeper technical analysis of problems they encounter
  • Identify some problems in desktop Firefox, furthering the process by which they can be fixed

Desired Audience Type or Skill-set:

  • People with reproducible performance stutters, lags, etc. in Firefox
  • People who want to learn how to contribute to fixing bugs without needing to write code
  • Triagers who want to further investigate problems they can reproduce

Equipment Needs (Video projector already included):

  • Power outlets, internet connection
