Session Title: Unconscious Bias

Unconscious bias refers to a bias that we are. unaware of, and which happens outside of our. control. It is a bias that happens automatically, and is triggered by our brain making quick associations. This workshop helps people recognize and overcome their bias in community interactions and decision making about people. We will also discuss some basic concepts around inclusion of diverse perspectives and how to overcome bias as to build robust inclusive communities.

Session Objectives:

  • Establish a shared understanding of the science of unconscious bias
  • Discuss and understand issues of diversity and inclusion within a global context

Learning Objectives"

  • Understand unconscious bias, its scientific underpinnings and how it plays out in culture(s)
  • Understand situations in which unconscious bias is at play and how to block it
