Developer QA Review
The QA person responsible for the feature should hold a formal interview with the lead developer or feature champion. Below are questions that should be asked in the interview:
- Do we have automated tests for the feature?
Yes, reftests test retained layers.
- What do they cover?
Almost all rendering except the stuff listed below.
- What do they not cover?
Reftests don't check that windowed plugins are drawn properly. They also don't check for flicker during scrolling or other dynamic activity. They don't check scrolling or general rendering performance.
- How well do they cover the feature?
Very well, other than the above.
- What are the important areas we should focus on?
- Scrolling --- speed and flicker-freedom
- General rendering performance --- especially small updates (e.g. typing into textareas) in large complicated pages
- Rendering of windowed plugins, especially when scrolling
- What are the dependencies?
None
- What is our comfort level with this feature in its current state?
Various people have been testing the retained layer patches for a while now. We've found some bugs, but it seems to work pretty well so far.
- What feedback would you like from QA?
See above. I'm especially worried about regressions in interactive performance.
