An overview of the Firefox Sync Quality Assurance Community based on the larger Mozilla Community.

Who Is In The Sync QA Community

Core Contributor

A core contributor is someone who has a leadership position in Firefox Sync Quality Assurance.

  • Examples: Desktop Sync QA lead, Mobile Sync QA lead, Sync Server QA lead, Sync QA community mentor
  • Goal size: 4 - 6 people
  • Mission impact: Core contributors make major impacts on Firefox Sync Quality Assurance through their contributions of time, skill and leadership.

Active Contributor

An active contributor is someone who has volunteered substantial time performing Firefox Sync Quality Assurance activities that involves interactions with others within the last 12 months.

  • Examples: Active participation in Sync Test Days, someone who files bugs against Sync on Nightly builds, someone who does regular bugzilla work in Sync components, someone who helps with QA in Sync release cycles, etc.
  • Goal size: 15 - 20 people
  • Mission impact: Active contributors directly support Firefox Sync Quality Assurance through their contributions of time and skill and provide the Sync Team with the ability to move forward with a wide range projects.

Casual Contributor

A casual contributor is someone who has volunteered small amounts of time in an activity.

  • Examples: Someone who has submitted feedback for Sync on input.mozilla.org, someone who filed a report about Sync on SUMO, someone who has submitted a Sync related crash report
  • Estimated size: Tens of thousands of people
  • Mission impact: In aggregate, casual contributors create real value for the improvement of Sync, spreading the word, providing decision-informing data and more.

Supporter

A supporter is someone who has shown an interest in Sync without having made a substantial contribution back to the community yet.

  • Examples: Someone who has researched how to turn on full sync logging, someone who has read some of our QA wiki pages.
  • Estimated size: Thousands of people?
  • Mission impact: Supporters advance the mission just like users, but they've taken the additional step to start educating themselves about Mozilla and by definition they are aware of some ways to get more involved.

User

A user is someone who uses Firefox Sync products but may not be aware of Mozilla's mission or that there are volunteer opportunities they could get involved with.

  • Example: Someone who uses Firefox Sync to improve their Mobile browsing experience
  • Estimated size: Millions of people
  • Mission impact: Users help advance our mission indirectly, although the people using our products may not be aware of how they are helping or that there even is a mission.
