As of Socorro 1.7.5, the admin panel has a new email feature that allows admins to contact users once a crash signature has been fixed.

Requirements

You must have rights to log in into the admin panel. Please see the Admin documentation for more details.

Details

Once a fix for a particular crash signature has been implemented, you may send an email to the users affected by this problem. Gather the Product, versions, and crash signature, as well as the date range of crashes for the users you want to message.

On the Email Admin page, fill in the form fields with the gathered data, and the desired email subject and body. You must use the unsubscribe email variable in your message. You can also use a particular user's email address, if you want.

For versions, enter all versions whose users you would like to be emailed. If you want to email users of every single version of a particular product. Click Submit.

On the next page you will see the estimated number of emails that will be sent. Verify that this is roughly the number of emails that you expected to be sent.

Clicking confirm will send the email. This may take a while. Once the process has been completed, the page will tell you how many emails were sent. Note: This will likely be different than the approximate number depicted on the previous page, but the numbers should not be vastly different.

Why does the estimate differ from the actual?

 * No duplicate emails will be sent for the same post crash fix
 * Opt-out email addresses will not be contacted
 * Errors sending to a specific email address (malformed, etc)
 * The estimate query and the sending query have differing logic

Recent Campaigns

Your email will show up in the recent campaigns sidebar. Here you will find all of the email templates used in previous campaigns.

Stage Testing

Campaigns should be tested on stage first to ensure that unexpected problems will not be encountered using production data.

Follow the instructions in the Post Crash Email Staging documentation to test an email campaign in a staging environment.
