McAfee has had major problems with Thunderbird 24.0.1 and prior releases causing crashes and poor performance, "Not Responding", "Unresponsive Script", etc. (For example [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=13495577#p13495577], [http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=12678533#p12678533], {{bug|592303}}). We recommend you do all of the following:
* Disable/delete '''McAfee Anti-Spam Thunderbird Extension''' in Tools | Addons | Extensions(It is safe to remove, and is absolutely not needed for good virus protection)
* Disable email attachment scanning (it individually scans all emails which slows down Thunderbird) - '''Uncheck Email attachments under Real Time Scanning > Settings > Scan these attachments and locations'''
* Write/Call McAfee support to inform them of your difficulty
* TB update fails and you get a 7-Zip Access Denied error when downloading a new version or updating. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise + AntiSpyware Enterprise 8.8. per the advice in this [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1040901 thread]
