To quote the Nortons a Norton support article "The email scanning feature in your Norton product cannot scan emails from the accounts that are configured for SSL. Nortons Norton's products have a number of exceptions, but the SONAR is the one usually refered to by . There are suggestions that you create a exception in for Thunderbird as a result of to fix slowness.
