McAfee has had major problems with several releases since TB16, up to and including TB24.x - causes Thunderbird crashes and poor performance, "Not Responding", "Unresponsive Script", etc. For example ([http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/mcafee_not_working_in_thunderbird_3_0 GS], {{bug|592303}}). We recommend you do all of the following:
* Write/Call McAfee support to inform them of your difficulty
* Disable/delete '''McAfee Anti-Spam Thunderbird Extension''' in Tools | Addons(It is absolutely [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Antivirus_software#Compatible_antivirus_programs not needed] for good virus protection)* Disable scanning of Thunderbird files and folders(by default McAfee is NOT supposed to be scanning them):

*# "On-Access Scan properties ..."
