McAfee has had major problems with Thunderbird 24.0.1 and prior releases causing crashes and poor performance, "Not Responding", "Unresponsive Script", etc. For example ([http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/mcafee_not_working_in_thunderbird_3_0 GS], {{bug|592303}}). We recommend you do all of the following:
* Disable/delete '''McAfee Anti-Spam Thunderbird Extension''' in Tools | Addons | Extensions(It is safe to remove, and is absolutely not needed for good virus protection)
* Disable the email attachment option in McAfee's Real Time Scan settings scanning (when on, it individually scans all emails and that cause the mail to slow which slows downThunderbird)- '''Uncheck Email attachments under Real Time Scanning > Settings > Scan these attachments and locations'''
* Disable scanning of Thunderbird files and folders (by default McAfee is NOT supposed to scan them):
