- Why we need the community
- Without that relationship, we're just another corp making money off our users (and their searches.)
- Why the community needs us
- Some (but not all!) features need to be developed at speed.
- Some corps can't cope with anything but another corp as a partner.
- Why we need to avoid the Geek Social Fallacies
- Radical Inclusion is a nice idea -- but we need a way to say 'thanks, but no thanks.' Like commenters, bad contributors will drive away good ones.
- Community norms -- why anti-sexism and anti-racism are important in this community
- If we're going to walk around congratulating ourselves on 'doing good is part of our code,' then we need to walk that walk in addition to talking the talk.
- What the community can offer us
- The community is not a focus group. It is our sensory system, giving us constant feedback -- pleasure, pain, etc.
- What we can offer the community
- A good CS degree in the States costs $250K now. We can give better training at a tiny fraction of the price.
- On-ramps!
- One and Done isn't enough. Talk with Mike Hoye about this.
