Intro

There are various communication channels for Reps to use to ask for help, share information, and more. Here you will learn more about them and the rules of engagement for each.

Mailing Lists

reps-general

This list is used for general discussions about the Mozilla Reps program and to share punctual news about an event or initiative that is relevant to the Mozilla Reps program and that can inspire/help other Reps.

This list should be used for:

  • Updates from council
  • General webdev updates
  • Suggestions for improving the program

This list should NOT be used to:

  • ask a technical/practical question (eg. how do I create my profile page?)
    • you should ask your mentor
  • discuss topics that are not relevant to the Mozilla Reps program
  • write a one sentence congratulatory note (eg. Well done!) because these pile-up and distract from the more relevant/productive discussions on the mailing list
    • you should leave a comment on the Reps profile page or on their blog/FB/twitter etc...
  • share events unless you need guidance from other reps' experiences.
    • Regional events should be planned/discussed at regional mailing lists.
    • Slides/ presentations and other useful tools may add the materials to Tools & Resources section

reps-webdev

This list is used for all discussions related to:

  • the Mozilla Reps website
  • the wiki
  • Labs projects
  • detailed webdev updates
  • The Reps Companion Add-on

reps-council

This list is for general discussions pertaining to the responsibilities of the Mozilla Reps council and is primarily used by Mozilla Reps council members. It can be followed by anyone with permission who want to bring up issues and ask council to make decisions.

This list should not be used for:

  • Ideas for the project (throwing this out there to get it started)
    • you should use reps-general for that

reps-mentors

This list is for general discussions pertaining to the responsibilities of the Mozilla Reps mentors is primarily used by Mozilla Reps mentors and council members. It can be followed by anyone with permission who want to bring up issues and ask mentors (as a group) questions and to make decisions.

reps-council alias

This is an email address where you can reach all members of the council.

Members of the council should ONLY be used for the following items:

  • Discussion of removing reps from the program
  • Discussion of conflicts between individual reps
  • Discussion of special/conflict budget and swag requests

Other reps should only use this address for URGENT matters that they think require the attention of the council.

Other

All other type of communication should go through the following recommended channels.

Mozilla Reps planet

Promoting planned events or making a call for assistance/papers/speakers etc.. Blogging about events, preparation, lessons learned etc

Regional mailing lists / forums

These can be used for general communication within your Mozilla community, and for reps for example to promote planned events or make a call for assistance/papers/speakers.
