If you have an idea for a project and wish the collaborate with other Mozillians, here are a few quick suggestions and questions you should ask yourself to get started and get people to join you in your effort. Remember, the following are just suggestions, YOU should decide what works best for you!

Getting started

1) What problem am I trying to solve?

The first thing you want to do is to write a short problem statement and explain how your project will solve this problem. The clearer you are in articulating the problem you're trying to solve, the easier it will be for people to get excited about your idea and join in on your project. Also, make sure to be clear on why you think your idea is interesting, who your target audience is and how you plan to build it.

2) Where do people go to learn about my project?

Think about creating a simple web page so that people can easily learn about your project and find out how they can get involved. Some recommmended places to create your project page are Github, Wiki.m.o or Tumblr (but there are many more!).

3) What is the best way for contributors to my project to communicate ?"

Clear communication channels is key to a healthy open source project. Make sure to choose a tool you're familiar with and that will help optimise communications with your contributors. A few recommendations include: Telegram, Google Group, Slack or Facebook.

4) How do I make sure everyone's on the same page?

The more contributors you have to your project, the more coordination is necessary. You should think about scheduling regular meetings (online and/or offline), sharing meeting notes, providing regular updates etc...

5) How can Mozilla advertise my project to other Mozillians?

We are listing all volunteer-led Connected Devices projects here. Make sure to add it if you haven't already! We'll also be advertising through other channels including Discourse, Telegram and the Connected Devices/Firefox OS Participatin Hub.
