Differences
Here is a list of things to check when you have a chance to use Windows 7:
- Where are profiles stored?
- C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
- Where are profile caches stored?
- C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
- How do you uninstall Firefox (is the control panel different)?
- Control Panel > Programs link > Uninstall a Program (Same as Vista)
- Where is the default location for file downloads?
- C:\Users\(username)\Downloads
- Do pop-ups still have the Firefox logo in the top-left of the title bar?
- Yes
- Do pop-ups still have the "Mozilla Firefox" name in the title bar?
- Yes
- Can you create a desktop shortcut by dragging the website favicon to the desktop?
- Yes
- How do you access the Firefox profile manager?
- Same way as in Vista
- Does IE show up in the list of browsers to import from (File>Import)?
- Yes
- If so, what is in the list of items to import?
- Internet options, cookies, browsing history, favorites
- Does the Print dialogue look different? (https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Printing+a+web+page)
- It looks the same
- Does [F5] still reload the current page?
- Yes
- Does [F11] still go to Full Screen mode?
- Yes
- When importing an HTML file, does the file chooser still say [Open]?
- Yes
- Does the Windows taskbar still have a volume icon?
- Yes
- Does the volume mixer still list Firefox separately?
- If you right-click on the Firefox icon, is "Run as Administrator" in the context menu?
- Yes
- How do you set Firefox as the default browser using the Windows control panel?
- Control Panel > Programs link > Default Programs link > Set your default programs > Click Firefox on the Programs list, click "Set this program a s default" and click OK.
- Does the context menu when clicking on the Firefox icon still have "Properties"?
- Yes
- If so, does it still have a "Target" field?
- Yes
- In IE, can you still go to Tools>Internet_Options>Connections>LAN_Settings?
- Yes
- Is there still a Task Manager?
- Yes
- Can you still access the Task Manager by right-clicking on the taskbar?
- Yes, "Start Task Manager"
- Does it still have a "Processes" tab, and list Firefox as "firefox.exe"?
- Yes
- Where are program files stored?
- %PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\, C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- Is there still Windows Security Zone policies, and if so, does it still affect downloading MSI and EXE files?
- Any new menus in the menu bar?
- File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help - those are specified by Firefox, nothing new.
- In the Library window, are the icons for expanding bookmark folders triangles or [+] boxes?
- Triangles for the default theme.
Windows features:
- Are there changes to parental controls, that affect Firefox?
- Does wordpad still exist?
- Yes
- Is there still a Windows firewall?
- Yes
- If so, do the instructions in the Windows Firewall article still apply?
- Pretty much. Will change the Vista instructions too.
- Control Panel > System and Security link > Windows Firewall link
- I heard the items in the taskbar include context menu items specific to applications. Does it look different when you right-click on the Firefox task item?
- If you've exported a bookmarks.html file, it will show up as "Recent." Clicking on it takes you to the saved file. The other options are "Mozilla Firefox" (opens a new window), "[Un]Pin this program to taskbar," and "Close [all] window[s]"
