What is a Mozilla Student Rep?
Mozilla Student Reps are college or university students helping to spread Firefox and the Mozilla Mission through campaigns and projects, mainly at their schools and also in their local communities. Student Reps also help new contributors join different functional areas across the Mozilla Project.
What is the difference between a Student Rep and a Mozilla Rep?
The Student Reps program exists to support new, student contributors. Once Student Reps have gained more knowledge and experience with Mozilla they have the option to apply the Mozilla Reps program.
Mozilla Reps (Remo) represent Mozilla in their country or geographic region, there is no limitation to a university setting. While any college student can be a Student Rep, Mozilla Rep applicants need to be "accepted" into the ReMo program through a formalized process. Once they join ReMo, Mozilla Reps take on advanced leadership functions and responsibilities and receive a wider set of tools and resources to help guide projects and organize community members.
What should I know to become a Student Rep?
To take part in the Student Reps program, you must be eighteen years of age or older and currently enrolled in college or university. If you are no longer a student, we encourage you to apply for the Mozilla Reps program. Click here to learn more about Mozilla Reps.
A successful Student Rep is enthusiastic about and familiar with Firefox and Mozilla -- experience planning events and organizing school activities is a plus! Having some programming and Web savvy can be helpful as well, but not necessary to do a great job. Reps should be comfortable answering basic questions about Web browsers, Firefox features, and how to get involved with Mozilla. So if you love Open Source Software or Mozilla Firefox, this is the opportunity for you!

Do I get paid for being a Student Rep?
The Mozilla Student Reps program is 100% volunteer based. Just like other functional areas of the Mozilla Project, we rely on the support and energy of people all around the world to make our open source model work. While we do not offer paid positions for participating in the program, we do provide access to people and resources that you won’t find anywhere else. The opportunity to represent Mozilla brings with it a lot of great experience and recognition.
How do I register for the program?
Please note that this program is currently inactive. At this time, we are working to launch a student program in April 2013. If you are interested in being contacted about this program once it is launched, please indicate so here.
When will I know if I am accepted into the program?
Since the Student Reps program is open to all students, you do not need to be “accepted.” Every student that completes the signup survey is automatically considered a part of the program.
How many Student Reps can there be at one school?
While we don’t have a limit to the number of students that can register to be Student Reps at any given school, we ask that students try to work together as one team or club once there are more than 2-3 reps at your school. All other students are welcome to participate in any activities you plan, but please organize yourself to have only 2-3 reps signed up at any given time.
What sort of activities do Student Reps do?
You don’t need a crop circle to tell people how awesome Firefox is! The Mozilla Student Reps have done everything from create a video on Firefox to host a help desk at school to convert their dormitory or university to Firefox. Here are more ways you can spread Firefox and we welcome your creativity.
How can I join the Student Reps Network website?
We’ll invite you. If you’re an active student and have officially registered through our signup+survey, you’ll receive an email with a link to sign up.
Where can I go to meet other Student Reps?
Our main communication channel is the Mozilla Students Reps group on Ning. You can participate in discussions or start your own thread in the forums there. However, we also have groups on popular social networks like Facebook and Twitter, so you can get involved there as well.
How can I get Firefox swag?
There will be opportunities throughout the year to signup for a Firefox “swag pack,” usually around major marketing campaigns like a Firefox launch or the start of the school year. We will let you know when it’s time to submit your requests, so please wait for the right times before asking.
Beyond the Firefox swag we will provide, you can always make your own! As long as you follow our Firefox Brand Toolkit guidelines, you are free to create anything from posters to t-shirts on your own and give them out to your community (you just can’t sell them for money/profit).
What are a Regional Leaders?
Regional Leaders are Mozilla Reps who join the ReMo Students SIG in order to serve as role models for Student Reps in their local area. Student Reps collaborate with Regional Leaders to define, plan, and execute campaigns and events for schools. They answer questions from Student Reps and ensure activities are in line with the overall standards and goals of the Mozilla Reps program and the greater Project.
In addition to their responsibilities as a Mozilla Rep, Regional Leaders will guide the creative direction and localization of promotional materials in their area. Also, Regional Leaders will be asked to attend roundtable meetings with the Mozilla Engagement Team to present regular updates on their regions.
How many Regional Leaders are there for my region?
Because community size varies a lot across the different regions, the number of Regional Leaders in your area will depend on the size of your community. We’ll start with at least 1 leader per region, but may accept up to 5 reps to become leaders for their part of the world.

How long do Reps serve as long Regional Leaders?
One year. The application process will take place each June and you can reapply every year as long as you’re a current Mozilla Rep.
How long can I be a Student Rep?
As long as you are a student in school, you qualify for the Student Reps program. Student Reps who exemplify advanced leadership and knowledge of Mozilla projects will be encouraged and supported to 'graduate' to the Mozilla Reps program.
What happens when I graduate from school?
Once you graduate from school, you are encouraged to apply for the Mozilla Reps program (ReMo) given your previous experience promoting Firefox and Mozilla projects. If ReMo isn't your preferred destination, please considered other contributor opportunities.
Since you won’t have access to other students in a school environment, we hope you will find a new community that you can work with in spreading Firefox and the Mozilla mission, whether it’s your home town or your work place.
