Evangelism
Note: The information in this page is obsolete.
The Evangelism team has been reorganized as the Developer Engagement team.
Who We Are
Evangelism is a small and friendly team at Mozilla. We are made up of people who care about the Open Web, we care about Mozilla and Firefox and we try and spread the stories that matter to web developers, end users and anyone else that will listen.
Where you can find us
You can find us on the evangelism mailing list (mirrored to the newsgroup) and on irc.mozilla.org on #devrel. (#devrel might seem obscure but it stands for "Developer Relations" - the original name for our group.)
Weekly Meetings
We have a weekly meeting to talk about Evangelism and Developer Relations issues. Call in if you've got a standards-related, documentation or developer issue and you want to talk about it in person.
- Thursdays at 8am Pacific US / 11am Eastern US / 15:00 UTC
- Agenda + Notes
- Use #devrel on irc.mozilla.org for backchannel
- Dial-in: +1.650.903.0800, followed by 92 and then 7391#
- Toll-free: +1.800.707.2533, followed by 369# and then 7391#
- Dial sip:92@ringring.office.mozilla.org 7391# from a generic SIP client
(The toll-free number works with Skype and some other VOIP services from outside the US.)
Standards and cross-browser compatibility
We work with web developers to help them understand why building web pages using open standards and open tools is important, how they can achieve cross-browser compatibility using standard methods and libraries, and how they can help tell that story to others who might be interested as well.
Feedback on Firefox and Mozilla
Sometimes web developers have questions about how something in Firefox works. We try and collect that feedback and work with the Mozilla developer community to drive changes or explain why something is the way that it is.
Evangelize the joy that is Firefox
Firefox leads the pack of web browsers with a great balance of leading web standards and web developer features, performance, end user utility along with a great end user feel. It's our job to talk about what makes Firefox different from the rest of the pack. This includes posting about new features, how things work, building interesting demos and technical documentation for features.
XUL and XULRunner
XUL and XULRunner are the underlying tools on which Firefox is built. XUL is used to build Firefox add-ons and there are other programs built using XUL and XULRunner. We support XUL and people using XULRunner.
Mozilla Project Communications
Mozilla is a lot more than just Firefox. We're a lively, open source, open project with contributors from all over the world. We also support the Thunderbird community, creators of the Thunderbird mail client. We try to communicate about what's going on in the project at a high level so that people who want to know what's really important can really use their time wisely.
