User:Rtanglao/Roland Unofficial FF 58 Support Report
From MozillaWiki
- An unofficial support work in progress always DRAFT report for Firefox 58 Desktop for power users and mozilla support volunteers, NOT for "normal" :-) users, what are we missing? either edit or irc me :rolandtanglao on #sumo or email me rtanglao AT mozilla.com or slack me @roland (you can find me in #sumo2). My apologies that some some of the linked documents are employee only; I wish we could be more "default by open" but not my call!
- After the end of the first 3 weeks we should do a pretty report in Google Docs with graphs!
- Also please note that we are not qualitative researchers, if you want something more scientific :-), please contact Matt Grimes of Strategy and Insights; his excellent team of qualitative and quantitative researchers can do something more formal and cool for you!

- Windows only, bug 1358372 reported in Firefox 54 - Volume Mixer processes being created for each tab
- hopefully fixed in Firefox 59 beta 4 for Windows and maybe a dot release for 58 ---> Windows only, Windows 10 Fall Creators Update added new Windows Defender settings that cause Firefox not to render pages or to crash (SUMO Forum threads tagged by our fabulous volunteer Philipp) from Firefox 58 is not loading any pages (including about: pages) bug 1433065, here are the Defender settings from comment 38 and 40:
- Validate Stack Integrity (StackPivot) -> no page display
- Validate API invocation (Caller Check) -> no page display
- Simulate Execution (SimExec) -> no page display
- Import Address Filtering (IAF) -> no page display
- Export Address Filtering (EAF), with and without "validate access..." option -> Crash
- but wait there's more :-) :
DEP: Enable="true" EmulateAtlThunks="false"
ASLR: ForceRelocateImages="true" RequireInfo="false" BottomUp="true" HighEntropy="false"
Payload: EnableExportAddressFilter="true" EnableExportAddressFilterPlus="true" EnableImportAddressFilter="true" EnableRopStackPivot="true" EnableRopCallerCheck="true" EnableRopSimExec="true"
In testing these individual features on Win10 1709 (Fall Creators) I've found that every payload setting here kills Firefox content.
