Why Would Club Roles be Important?

While not *required*, it is highly recommended that your Firefox Club take the time to determine leadership roles and opportunities for it's members.

How to Determine Club Roles

  • Send a message to your Firefox Club Facebook group regarding hosting your first meeting
  • During your first meeting determine which roles your club needs, how to conduct your elections, and gauge interest from those in attendance as to who would like to run for which role
  • Set a date for the elections and advertise out to the Ambassadors at your school the date, time, and location of the elections
  • Hold the elections
  • Let us know the outcome! Make sure and post the names of your Club leadership on your wiki page

We always recommend that you take notes during your meeting (and post these notes on your wiki page) so that those who are not able to attend can find out more information about what happened. Here is a helpful template for your meeting notes.

Things to Consider

Before electing individuals, your Firefox Club should consider the following things:

  • Term length (we recommend 6 months to start off with)
  • Term limits (we recommend that each person should not be in their role longer than 1 year (to allow for new people to participate and have an opportunity to serve as a leader in the group)
  • Eligibility (It would be a good idea before voting to have each candidate say a few words about their qualifications for the position and why they would like to serve in this role. There's quite a bit of responsibility with these roles, so you want to make sure the people are up to the task!)
  • Bandwidth (we recommend that each person not be able to hold more than 1 role - as that may be too much work for 1 person!)
  • All Firefox Student Ambassadors at your school should have the opportunity to vote. Make sure you message your Ning group with the date and time of the vote before proceeding.
